2003 ANNUAL DILLARD FAMILY ASSOCIATION REUNION
MAY 3, 2003

The 2003 Reunion of the Dillard Family Association was held on Saturday, May 3, 2003 in Dillard, Georgia. Registration began at 10 o’clock in the “Rock House” of the Dillard House. Approximately 33 persons attended.

The Blue Ridge Mountains Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution at 11:00 A. M. presented a dressed reenactment program at the gravesite of Revolutionary War Patriot, Lt. John Dillard in the cemetery of the Head of Tennessee Baptist Church. The Dillard Family through the Association presented a wreath of red, white and blue flowers, which was placed on the grave of Lt. John Dillard by his descendant Connor Dillard son of John Dillard, Jr. and grandson of this year’s president, John P. Dillard of Dillard, Georgia.

Following the ceremony, a luncheon was held at 12:30 A. M. in the main dining room of the Dillard House where Sons of the American Revolution were guests of the Dillard Family Association.

John T. Coleman of Marietta, Georgia presented a program entitled, “Indians in Rabun County” in the “Rock House” of the Dillard House from 2;00 to 4:00 P.M. This was followed by a social hour with an array of refreshments, compliments of John P. Dillard, President of the Dillard Association.

The business meeting was held at 5:00 P.M. at Kelly Park at Estatoah Falls north of Dillard, Georgia toward Highlands, North Carolina with Margurite Coldren McDole, Vice-President. presiding. Malcolm Dillard, Chairman of the Nominating Committee presented nominations for the coming year 2004, which was seconded by John M. Dillard. The motion was carried unanimously. Elected by acclamation were Myron B. Allen, of Salem, South Carolina, President; Dr. Mary Foster Dillard Cox, of Camden, South Carolina, Vice-President; and Margaret H. Dillard, of Greenville, South Carolina, Secretary-Treasurer.

John M. Dillard introduced a motion of appreciation to John P. Dillard for his excellent service as President of the Dillard Association. This motion was seconded by Marguerite McDole and was carried unanimously.

John M. Dillard moved that the membership dues remain unchanged in order to accumulate funds to restore the gravestones of Dillard ancestors, particularly the gravestone of James Dillard, located at Head of Tennessee Baptist Church Cemetery in that these gravestones though age were in danger of total loss. This motion was seconded by Frances Allen. A discussion followed with the amount of $600.00 being designated to fund the project initially. Edward R. Dillard and B. Malcolm Dillard were named in charge of this project. This motion was carried unanimously.

Margaret H. Dillard, Treasurer, reported the Dillard Family Association has a balance on hand of $ 1775.94. A copy of the treasurer’s report was on motion ordered to be attached to the minutes of this meeting. A motion to accept the Treasurer’s report as read was made by Edward R. Dillard and seconded by Charlotte Dillard. The motion carried. Highlights of the minutes of the last meeting were read by Peggy Dillard and approved as read. The business meeting was adjourned at 5:20 P.M.

A barbeque with fellowship followed in the Kelly Park with some members hiking to the waterfalls. After dinner, the reunion adjourned.
